Thanks to Deadpool & Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is on everyone’s lips. In the new Marvel film, the Australian actor brings his most famous role back on the big screen. Jackman has proven several times throughout his career that he can do more than just comic book films in a wide variety of genres.
Especially in science fiction cinema Jackman likes to stop by, most recently with the exciting tech noir thriller Reminiscence or the robot action Chappie, where he appears as a villain in shorts. That brings us to today’s TV tip – we mean the robot action, not the shorts.
Because tonight Real Steel – tough opponents is on TV.
The sci-fi version of Rocky on TV: Hugh Jackman sends robots into the boxing ring in Real Steel
Real Steel takes you to 2020, which was still in the future when the film was released in 2011, and imagines a world in which Boxing matches carried out by massive robots become. Jackman takes on the role of a former boxer who, together with his son, sends such a metal monster into the ring.

It tells a classic underdog story in a sci-fi setting that feels like one Mixture of Robot Wars and Rocky feels. The film was directed by Shawn Levy, who worked with Jackman for the first time here before he directed the aforementioned Deadpool & Wolverine this year.
Thanks to Night at the Museum and Co., Levy brings a lot of experience in the field of comedy and US family blockbuster cinema. The biggest draw of the film, however, is not its staging; Jackman’s strong performancewhich allows us to discover something human among all the metal colossi.
In a sense, Real Steel functions as an alternative to the Transformers films that have conquered the big screen since 2007. There, riotous giants pile up in endless robot battles in which people seem helpless, almost out of place. Real Steel plays on a smaller scale and is interested in the dents.
Although the film grossed over $300 million, a sequel was never greenlit. Instead, Variety reported in January 2022 that Disney+ a series in development located. However, there has been no update on the project since then. The future of the Real Steel universe is uncertain.
