Sometimes clowns have nothing to laugh about. Joker 2: Folie à deux, sequel to an extremely successful predecessor, is panned by many critics. And the regular viewers are in no way inferior to them: According to the Hollywood Reporter, representatives of the audience have the film rated worse than any other American comic book adaptation of the last 45 years. Including Morbius and Madame Web.
Humiliation for Joker 2: Even Morbius and Madame Web got better grades

As the article explains, no Hollywood comic book adaptation has apparently ever received such a low CinemaScore. The Grade is determined by evaluation cards, which will be distributed in cinemas in five randomly selected cities on the US release day. In addition to the pure rating, viewers can enter their age and gender, among other things. Around 400 people are interviewed in this way per film.
More on the topic:
The CinemaScore has a lot of weight for US cinema: for studios, in addition to the usual projections of income, it is considered a litmus test of the success or flop of a film. Viewers decide whether to go to the cinema based on their grade. It has existed since 1979 and no Hollywood comic adaptation has ever received a D rating. Until now.
Both Marvel and DC recently released films in cinemas that received below-average ratings from many viewers. But even obvious examples like Morbius or Madame Web were still able to achieve a CinemaScore of C+. Viewers will have to decide for themselves whether Joker 2 deserves such a reaction.
