Hugo Larsson breaks the silence about the quarrel with Jon Dahl Tomasson

Hugo Larsson is back in the national team – and speaks about the reactions after leaving the previous collection prematurely.
– It was not as big a deal as it became in the media, he says.

When Hugo Larsson met the media after Wednesday’s training with the national football team, he gave his version of the conversation with the national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson for this collection.
– Super important, he says.

Everyone knows that it gets a bit messy in the family and at work, and it is important to talk about it and resolve it. It wasn’t as big of a deal as the media made it out to be. We had a good chat and cleared the air a bit.

Left early

During the previous gathering, Hugo Larsson did not get any playing time against Azerbaijan. Tomasson then publicly justified the poke, which Larsson did not appreciate. The Skåne Frankfurt midfielder, who was disappointed by the lack of playing time, then left the squad ahead of the home game against Estonia, with a slight injury to his back.

The fact that he then trained with Frankfurt just a couple of days later caused some reactions.
– When people care as much as people do about the national team, there will always be reactions and opinions, somewhere it just has to be. All of us who were around know the truth, says Larsson.

The truth, he believes, is that neither he, the club nor the national team wanted to take a chance, but he went to Germany to do tests. It turned out to be okay and I was able to do some light training three to four days after the collection.

“New mentality”

The 20-year-old was also asked if his expressed displeasure with the poke was a bit typical of the new younger generation.
– It’s a new mentality if you say so, those of us who come up believe in ourselves a lot. We are many young people who play at a high level in Europe, so we have great confidence and come here with that, he says.
– You can learn from everything in this life, but somewhere I will never walk away from the person I am. I will always be open and honest.

Hugo Larsson comes to the national team gathering full of confidence.
– I’ve had my best football weeks in my career, I’m in the shape of my life and my body feels good, he says.

When asked if there will be games in the Nations League match against Slovakia on Friday, he answers.
– You can take that with you, Jon. I’m available for whatever he wants to use me for – one game, two games, sub, “whatever” and I’m here and ready.

Sweden faces Slovakia on Friday and Estonia on Monday in two away matches.
