As part of its Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, the provincial government is doling out a little more than $8 million to Oxford County and its eight member municipalities to “help renew and rehabilitate critical infrastructure.”

The funding — part of the Ontario government’s $190-billion capital plan to build or expand more homes, highways, hospitals, high-speed internet and transit systems across the province — will be delivered in 2025, Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman said in a release.
“This funding is important to our municipal partners here in Oxford,” Hardeman said. “By investing in our local communities, our government is helping to foster economic growth and resilience.”
The $8,076,964 in total funding will be split among the nine municipalities, with Oxford receiving the lion’s share.
The fund’s local investment is part of a larger $400 million in 2025 program funding earmarked for 423 “small, rural and northern communities” that will help pay for roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure. As part of the program, communities can “accumulate” the funding for as long as five years to help tackle larger projects.

“Small, rural and northern communities are essential to the growth and prosperity of Ontario,” said Kinga Surma, Ontario’s minister of infrastructure, in a release. “By providing direct and stable funding to these communities, our government is helping create local jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger, more resilient communities for generations to come.”
The Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund provides funding for local infrastructure projects in municipalities that have populations fewer than 100,000 residents, as well as rural and northern jurisdictions. The funding allocations are based on a formula that accounts for the different needs and economic circumstances of each municipality, the release noted.
