Better than ginger this plant wonderfully balances blood sugar levels

Its herbaceous taste is generally preferred to that of spirulina or matcha.

Certain drinks are known to limit blood sugar spikes and regulate what is called “blood sugar”. This is particularly the case for lemon juice, cider vinegar or ginger juice. Having stable blood sugar levels throughout the day limits fatigue after meals, cravings, snacking and therefore weight gain.

Much less known, another plant would be even more effective in balancing blood sugar levels, helping to control weight and limiting the risk of diabetes. Its “natural hypoglycemic” activity has been widely studied by researchers, notably in a study published in the journal Nutrients. To highlight the benefits of this plant, scientists followed 73 prediabetic people (prediabetes corresponds to higher than normal blood sugar levels, but not enough to make a diagnosis of diabetes) divided into two groups. The first group had to consume 2.4 g of this plant reduced to powder and mixed with water every day for 12 weeks (3 months), while the second group had to consume a placebo drink. Blood sugar, hormones controlling appetite and the composition of the gut microbiota were studied. At the end of 3 months, the results showed, in people in the first group, a 60% improvement in fasting blood sugar and glycated hemoglobin, two indicators that reflect blood sugar levels.

This plant grows in Asia, in most tropical countries and on the Mediterranean coasts, is rich in proteins, fiber, potassium, magnesium, beta-carotene, alpha-tocopherol (the active form of vitamin E) and polyphenols, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant molecules, beneficial for preventing diabetes.

The taste of Moringa (the famous plant), herbaceous and slightly bitter, reminiscent of spinach, does not appeal to everyone, even if it is generally preferred to the taste of spirulina or matcha. If you like, Moringa can be drunk alone, in powder form simply mixed with water. Otherwise, it fits perfectly into juices or smoothies or even into a soup, at a rate of 2-3 g per day (i.e. 2 teaspoons). This pretty green powder is easily found in organic stores, drugstores and certain hypermarkets.
