A decision that is causing a stir among motorists who use this road every day to get to work, and who fear more traffic jams during rush hours.
The new Minister of Transport, François Durovray, is also not convinced by the effectiveness of such a measure to reduce noise and pollution around the capital: “Studies show that this is not necessarily the right way to achieve this. he declared. Valérie Pécresse, President of the Ile-de-France Region, also regrets the forceful passage of the city of Paris on the speed limit to 50 km/hour on the ring road. “This decision is socially unjust and ecologically ineffective: it penalizes workers working shifts who today can still drive at 70 km/h and has too limited an effect on noise reduction.” she explains in a press release dated September 30. But that’s not all: in addition to this new speed limit, the Paris town hall has a completely other project, from January, which could, a once again, enraging motorists.
“To this first decision, the harmful effects of which far outweigh the beneficial effects, will be added in January the desire of the city of Paris to remove a lane for general traffic to reserve it for carpooling, a decision which risks causing a road congestion throughout Ile-de-France“, recalls the Ile-de-France Region, which intends to set up a monthly barometer of the ring road to measure the impact of these decisions.
The President of the Region also recalls that the ring road is an infrastructure used by 80% of non-Parisians, and 40% of whose journeys are from suburb to suburb. The French will have to move in step and adapt as best they can to these new measures which do not seem to convince at the moment.
