Escaped wolves shot to death

Since last Monday, two wolves have been on the run from the Polar Park zoo in Bardu in Norway.

During the night of Sunday, one of the wolves was shot to death near the zoo.

– It is sad that the wolf had to be shot. But in the end it was the only choice, says Ragnar Norum, chairman of the board of Polar Park to NRK Sápmi.

During the night of Monday, the second wolf was also shot to death, also in the vicinity of the zoo.

For the longest time, it had been hoped that the wolves would return to the pack in the zoo.

– The wolves are very shy and suspicious of people, and we had to use people to possibly get the wolf into our innermost enclosure. It’s demanding, so it had to end the way it did.

The zoo has been closed to the public since the wolves escaped.
