Bloody battles in ancient times with ultra slow motion and steeled bodies have actually been unbeatable since Zack Snyder’s 300. At least until Tarsem Singh decided to film War of the Gods. Anyone who has ever seen a film by the Indian director like The Cell or The Fall will spectacular worlds of images from this you may never forget it again.
War of the Gods with The Witcher star Henry Cavill in his first big action film is also a film that is less about the plot and more about it the images remain in memory. Kabel eins is broadcasting the blockbuster today, which turns out to be a mixed experience for long stretches and then takes your breath away in the 20-minute finale.

The finale of War of the Gods is worth the entire film
In the story of Tarsem Singh’s film, the sadistic King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) wants Revenge on the gods who he blames for the death of his family. To do this, he wants to free the Titans who were once imprisoned by the gods.
To prevent Hyperion’s plan, Zeus raised Theseus (Henry Cavill) on Earth disguised as a human. He is supposed to find the powerful Epeiros Bow, with which the Titans can be freed in order to defeat Hyperion and his army.

So far, so generic. With the plot, which seems at least as ancient as the setting of the film itself due to its revenge motif, War of the Gods is guaranteed to not lure anyone away. The film is made much more captivating by the director’s striking images, in almost every shot despite the now outdated computer effects like a fine oil painting works.
The highlight here is the 20-minute finale, in which Tarsem Singh takes his style to extremes. The decisive confrontation between Theseus and Hyperion begins with a larger battle reminiscent of 300, combining bloody sword fights with stylish slow motion.
The director finally unleashes the opulent climax when the gods in their golden armor clash with the ashen titans. When both factions fight against each other as reincarnations of heaven and hell in scenes that almost seem like exaggerated Marvel cinema, War of the Gods suddenly mixes in the noble visuals ultra-brutal splatter excesses.
