The championship ceremony of the reigning NHL champion Florida Panthers planned for Monday has been canceled due to a hurricane approaching the area.
The championship ceremony of last season’s champion of the NHL, the Florida Panthers, has had to be canceled due to Hurricane Milton approaching the area. The ceremony was supposed to be held on Monday.
– Since this event would require resources from rescue workers, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our championship ceremony. We want to be careful and think about the safety of the participants. We will hand out the championship rings privately instead of in a ceremony, Panthers CEO Matt Caldwell said in the announcement.
The storm is predicted to strengthen into a Category 3 major hurricane. It is estimated to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday. Several Florida counties are currently under a state of emergency.
In last season’s finals, the team defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4–3. The championship team included five Finns: Alexander Barkov, Anton Lundell, Niko Mikkola, Eetu Luostarinen and assistant coach Tuomo Ruutu.
The Panthers’ NHL season starts with a match against the Boston Bruins on the night before Wednesday Finnish time.
