Football: Late cold shower for Västerås – even closer to the super league: “Will continue to fight”

VSK had the chance to score a winning goal and the bench was just waiting for one at Strandvallen in Mjällby when instead the home team stepped up and decided.

– It feels as if it is not our year this year, we have had a lot against us. He makes an incredible save there, don’t know where he pulls that save from. It was a match-winning save of course for them, says VSK’s coach Kalle Karlsson to Max.

It was in the 84th minute that the bouncing ball went out from a post hit to Daniel Ask who got a hard hit on the half volley. In the goal, however, Mjällby’s goalkeeper Noel Törnqvist stood upright and had time to raise his hands to make a reflex save.

With four games left and twelve points to play for, Västerås has five points up on Halmstad in the qualifying spot and the team is still motivated to gather together during the national team break.

Malmö FF after the break

– We will take the break and look at it match by match. Now we have Malmö FF and if you are not inspired then I don’t know what is and we will go for the victory there and continue to fight as long as this table lives, says Karlsson.

When Västerås chased a winning goal in the final minutes, Mjällby stood up. Elliot Stroud sent the ball in and in front of goal Tom Pettersson headed in the winning goal for Mjällby. It was his second goal in the last three games.

– Finally, it has finally come off, I’ve been damn near many times and it came at the right time. If I’m honest, they could have scored before, so it was damn good, says Tom Pettersson.

Bergström record goalscorer for Mjällby

Jacob Bergström stayed in front near the goal and angled in 1-0 and broke a ten-game goal drought. It was his 29th Allsvenska goal and thus he is the best goalscorer for Mjällby of all time. He shared the previous record with Marcus Ekenberg at 28 goals.

– It’s a fun thing and in the end they hit “Eken”. It’s good, says Bergström.
