A long-time Scouts Canada event made its return this past weekend.
The Kub Kar Rally, which went on hiatus during the pandemic, took place at the WISH Center in Chatham on Saturday, with 34 youth taking part.
Organizer Dave Elliott said there had been more virtual activities over the past couple of years, but was pleased to move ahead with an in-person event.
“You roll with everything,” he said, noting it might some time before more people return. “I think it’s good to get everybody back doing things again. … Just to get the parents involved, the kids involved, the leadership involved.”
This year’s rally, sponsored by Charron Transport, was held in honor of Richard Greene, who passed away in 2020 and committed much time to the building and modification of tracks.
“He was an electrician by trade,” Elliott said. “All the operating systems, electronic logic, everything, was designed by Rick.”
Elliott added the rally will return to its usual January date next year, with efforts also in the works to bring back the regionals.
