VMA issued heavy fire in terraced house

A heavy fire has broken out in a terraced house in the Bergvik area in Söderhamn, reports Söderhamns-Kuriren. A VMA, Important Public Notice, has been issued to people in the area asking them to stay away.

The emergency services are on site with several units and expect to remain for several hours.

Smoke diving canceled – the roof has collapsed

– We have canceled the smoke diving when the roof collapsed, says Jimmy Andersson Taylor on the rescue service to TV4.

In total, there will be six apartments in the terraced house.

– There is a fire in four apartments and we are trying to limit it to them and save the other two apartments, says Jimmy Andersson Taylor at the rescue service to TT.

Risk of spread

According to the emergency services, there is a risk of the fire spreading to more nearby townhouses. It writes TV4.

– We are currently working to try to limit it, says Jimmy Andersson Taylor.

Residents have been evacuated

Residents in the fire-ravaged row of townhouses and an adjacent property of the same size have been evacuated. There is no information that anyone has been injured.

The extinguishing work is expected to continue for many hours to come.

– We will be here all afternoon and probably the evening as well, says Jimmy Andersson Taylor.

It is currently unclear what caused the fire.
