  • Car chase in Jönköping – driver suspected of several crimes

    On the night of Saturday, the police would stop a car in Jönköping.

    Then the driver hit the gas and tried to flee the scene.

    A car chase began, but came to an abrupt end when the suspect drove off the road.

    Two men in their 20s were in the vehicle. The passenger escaped unhurt, but the driver had to be taken to hospital for a check-up. The injuries are said not to be serious.

    The driver is now suspected of negligence in traffic, serious drunken driving and minor drug offences.

    The passenger is suspected of minor drug possession, minor drug offense, and permitting drunk driving.

  • Traffic accident in Kristianstad – one taken to hospital

    Two passenger cars have collided outside Kristianstad during Saturday morning, the police write on their website.

    One person has been taken to hospital by ambulance.

    – We have no information about the state of the damage. We are still at the scene and gathering information, says Evelina Olsson, police spokesperson.

  • Caravan fire in Vimmerby – investigated as arson

    During the night of Saturday, a caravan caught fire in Vimmerby.

    Police and emergency services were called to the scene.

    There are no reports of anyone being injured, but the caravan was completely burnt out.

    What caused the fire is still unclear and the incident is now being investigated as arson.

    The site has been cordoned off for technical investigation.

  • Fully developed fire in industrial premises

    At 05.30 the emergency services received an alarm that a fire had broken out in a bakery at Moraberg in Södertälje.

    – We have eight units on site and it’s burning to the brim. We have no information about how the fire started, says Per Thelander, officer on duty at the rescue service.

    The work has just begun and the emergency services plan to remain for several hours. There is no risk of further spread.

    According to the police, no injured person has been found and the premises will burn to the ground. A preliminary investigation into aggravated arson has been launched.

  • Explosion in port

    Something has detonated in a gate to an apartment building in Märsta outside Stockholm.

    The alarm came in at 03.10 on Saturday night.

    – There is damage to the property but no personal injuries, says Mats Eriksson, press spokesperson at the police.

    The material damage must not have caused any major damage or collapse risk to the building.

    A major police operation is underway at the scene.

    – We have checked several people in the area and spoken to witnesses.

    No one has been arrested.

    The police have started a preliminary investigation into public dangerous devastation.

    Two taxis collided head-on at 04.30 early Saturday morning near Stockholm’s central station.

    Police, emergency services and ambulance rushed to the scene of the accident on Kungsgatan, diagonally outside the casino.

    – One driver states that he took nitrous oxide, says Mats Eriksson, press spokesperson at the police.

    According to the police, none of the drivers, who were alone in the cars during the collision, had to be taken to hospital.

    – One person was trapped but could be freed, says Alexander Westerberg, management operator at the rescue service.

    The man who said he had taken nitrous oxide was arrested on suspicion of drugged driving.

    – Everything must be on film. It’s good, it makes it easier for us to investigate, says Mats Eriksson at the police.

  • Children died of rabies after contact with bats

    A child in the city of Brantford in Canada was sleeping when a bat flew into the room.

    Shortly thereafter, the child contracted rabies and died, reports say CBC News.

    The parents, awakened by the bat, checked on the child but found no bite marks or lacerations and therefore did not seek medical attention.

    A local health official is urging anyone who has been in contact with bats to get a rabies vaccine, even if there are no signs of symptoms.

    It is the first death from rabies in the province of Ontario in over 50 years.

  • The national police chief wants to introduce facial recognition

    National Police Chief Petra Lundh wants the police to be allowed to use facial recognition in real time.

    The tool is a prerequisite for being able to access gang crime and serious crime in the country, she says to Echo.

    – It is not unusual that we have a picture of the likely perpetrator, but then we cannot find him or her, says Petra Lundh in Ekot’s Saturday interview.

    Through AI recognition, cameras could find and report the whereabouts of suspected criminals.

    A Swedish investigation has proposed that facial recognition should be used for crimes that can result in at least four years in prison.

  • New explosions in southern Beirut

    New explosions are heard in southern Beirut after Israeli attacks, according to AFP news agency reporters on the ground.

    Smoke is seen rising from an area near the airport. Earlier, the Israeli military’s Arabic-language spokesman, Avichay Adraee, urged residents in parts of the area to evacuate.

    The Iran-backed Hezbollah movement, which continues to fire rockets at Israel, says fighting is ongoing against Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, near the border with Israel.

  • One to hospital after accident – car caught fire

    One person has been taken by ambulance to hospital after two cars collided at Lindbacken outside Uppsala. The person’s injury status is unclear.

    The alarm came in at 00:40.

    – A car has driven into the side of another car, whereupon a car started to burn, says Kurt Jonsson, line operator at the rescue service.

    Four people were involved in the accident and all managed to get out of the cars before one of them caught fire.

    – It’s a powerful collision, says Kurt Jonsson.

    The police say they are working on the scene. There is currently no criminal classification.

  • Car on fire – hit by fireworks

    The police have received several alarms about a loud bang in Södertälje.

    At the scene, the police found a burning car.

    – Everything indicates that it is fireworks. Someone has fired fireworks at the car, says Sylvia Oldin, officer on duty at the police.

    No one is arrested.

    – There have been a lot of people who have contacted us about this explosion. We are on site with several patrols and checking people, says Sylvia Oldin.

    The incident is being investigated as vandalism.

  • Biden warns Israel against attack on oil fields

    Joe Biden says he is doing what he can to avoid a full-scale war in the Middle East – and that he hopes Israel realizes the danger of attacking Iranian oil fields.

    – If I were in their position, I would consider other options.

    The US president said on Thursday that oil fields could be a possible target for Israel as it retaliates for Iran’s major bombing on Tuesday.

  • Young man cut at house party

    At eleven o’clock on Friday evening, the police are alerted to a party in a villa in Skärblacka outside Norrköping. An 18-year-old man states that he has been stabbed in the upper arm.

    – We get there and talk to the man and find that he has injuries to his arm, but that the injuries are not serious, says police spokesperson Linus Maxe.

    The ambulance personnel have also arrived at the scene and are taking care of the man’s injuries.

    The police are interviewing the party-goers in the villa to form a picture of the course of events.

    No one has been arrested and there is no criminal classification yet.

  • Man beaten with a sharp object

    Several people have started arguing in connection with a restaurant in Rågsved in Stockholm.

    The police were called to the scene shortly before 11 p.m. to the scene.

    – Several people seem to be involved. One of them has injured a man with a sharp object, says Sylvia Oldin, duty officer at the police.

    The man, who is in his 30s, has been taken to hospital by ambulance.

    The extent of the damage is unclear.

    – We have not arrested anyone, but we are searching the area for suspected perpetrators, says Sylvia Oldin.

    The incident is being investigated as aggravated assault.

  • Man hit by car – taken to hospital

    A 25-year-old man has been hit by a car in Oskarshamn.

    The accident happened at 19.30.

    The man is taken to hospital by ambulance. The extent of the damage is unclear.

    – A man in his 60s is suspected of causing bodily harm, says Sara Andersson, press spokesperson at the police.
