In the fall of 2024, they finally came “home” again – after several years in, among other places, London and later in Florida, the princess is now Madeleine and the husband Chris O’Neill again on Swedish soil. Everyday life is in full swing for the family, the children have started Swedish schools, Chris has started a new company with all that entails and Princess Madeleine is busy with her commitments, where since 2016 she has worked for the Childhood Foundation, the foundation that the Queen Silvia founded to stop sexual abuse of children.

As a king Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia’s second child, “Madde” has lived in the spotlight all her life – and in connection with her growing up in front of everyone’s eyes, the popular princess has had time to graduate, confirm, fall in love, get engaged – twice! – get married (once) and have several children.

The world-accustomed princess’s eventful life is something that many are curious about, therefore have News24 compiled the most common questions that Swedes google about Princess Madeleine.

The princess Madeleine and the husband Chris O’Neill have three children together. Their first child, the daughter Princess Leonore was born in New York at Presbyterian Hospital on February 20, 2014. As she was born in the United States, she is also an American citizen. The following year – or on June 15, 2015 to be precise – the couple’s second child, Prince, arrived Nicholas. The daughter Adriennewho has the title princess, was born on March 9, 2018 at Danderyd hospital.

Just like Leonore, Prince Nicolas and Princess Adrienne are also American citizens, something that was confirmed by Hovet’s press manager Margaret Thorgren. In an interview with Mom In 2019, “Madde” told us more about her children’s personalities.

– Leonore is the lively and bubbly one. Nicolas is much more calm and sensitive with a big heart, a real mama’s boy. He is the one I get all the comments from! He can say “Mom, you look beautiful!”. Adrienne is very simple, happy, calm and harmonious, and just goes along. Now she is 16 months so now you start to see a little more characteristics, she is very quick-witted and tries to keep up with the others with her little legs.

Princess Madeleine’s children have really fancy names! Princess Leonore – where the name Leonore has both Greek and French origins – means “shining light”. In addition to her nickname, she also has the names Lilian Mariawhere we guess Lilian is a tribute to Princess Lilian who died the year before Leonore was born. Also called Prince Nicolas Paul Gustaf. How it came to be Nicolas, Chris O’Neill actually revealed how he and Princess Madeleine chose that particular name.

“It’s a name we both like very much and I was called Nicolas for about a day before my dad changed it to Christopher,” O’Neill wrote in a text to SvD.

The youngest of the family is Princess Adrienne, who also has the names Josephine Alice. All the children are named Bernadotte in last name.

Princess Madeleine’s height – how tall is she?

This thing about how tall each member of the royal family is, well it’s something that fascinates us all. Actually, King Carl XVI Gustaf is 177 centimeters and Queen Silvia is 165 centimeters tall – something she often makes up for with heels of a couple of centimeters.

Crown Princess Victoria is 168 centimeters, Prince Carl Philip is one centimeter shorter than his father at 176 centimeters. Princess Madeleine, on the other hand, is a whopping 170 centimeters tall. She usually wears heels from one of the Italian fashion houses where, for example, Valentino is a favorite – then she will be almost as tall as her beloved husband Chris, who is 180 centimeters tall, writes Swedish Lady.

Madeleine and Chris’ youngest child is Princess Adrienne. In an interview with Expressen, Adrienne’s grandmother Queen Silvia said that Adrienne is a little more shy than her older sibling.

– The two oldest speak good Swedish, the youngest, Adrienne, she is a bit shy but it will come, Silvia told the newspaper.

Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill became a couple in 2010, when Madeleine left Sweden and the scandal headlines about the ex-boyfriend Jonas Bergström behind him. She then found happiness instead with the British-American Chris O’Neill.

– I had just moved to New York and met him through mutual friends. Chris has a knack for making everyone around him feel good. I like that. And then he is romantic. A real gentleman. We went to the movies and had dinner together. Was on classic dates, Madeleine told in an interview with Elle.

Madeleine wore a dress designed by Valentino Garavani, founder of one of Madde’s favorite brands, Maison Valentino. The wedding dinner took place at Drottningholm Palace.

Responsible for the dinner was Stefano Catenacci and the menu included calix roe, västerbotten pie and veal fillet. The somewhat unique wedding cake was 700 macaroons arranged on a pyramid.

Among the guests at the lavish wedding was, among others, the crown prince Frederick and the Crown Princess Mary from Denmark, the crown prince Haakon Magnus and the Crown Princess Mette-Marit from Norway.

Also Norwegian Martha Louise, who was then married to the now deceased Ari Behnwas in place. Other well-known faces included the princess Charlene of Monaco, the golf pro Jesper Parnevikthe artist Marie Fredrikssonthe media profile Andreas Carlsson and the Duran Duran star John Taylor.

Princess Madeleine’s family

Princess Madeleine has a large family – and it’s wonderful! Mother is Queen Silvia and her father is King Carl XVI Gustaf. As you know, the siblings are Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Madeleine and Prince Carl Philip. Her aunts are the princess Birgitta and the princess Margaretha.

Who is Princess Madeleine’s ex Jonas?

Princess Madeleine and Jonas Bergström met through mutual friends in 2002. Then “Madde” was 17 years old. But they didn’t become a couple until later.

– I fell for her beautiful blue eyes and for her lovely laugh, she is an incredibly happy and positive person who always sees the best in everyone, Jonas Bergström said when they announced their engagement after being a couple for seven years, something that Expressen then reported on.

Jonas, the lawyer from “Djursan” – or Djursholm as it is called – was Madeleine’s great love. They lived together in Hovstallet in Östermalm, but the love story came to an abrupt end when it was revealed in 2010 that Jonas had cheated on Madeleine with a Norwegian skier during a skiing holiday in Åre.

The Norwegian told about their affair to the Norwegian Se og hör, and shortly afterwards Jonas and Madeleine’s engagement was broken.

Jonas Bergström was born on January 23, 1979 and has for many years been a partner in the law firm Vinge where he works. He has been married to the socialite since 2013 Stephanie of Klerckerwho founded the clothing brand Soft Goat, and the couple lived until recently with their three children in a villa on Djurgården.

Stephanie’s clothing brand has been a huge success, and in 2023 she sold the company for almost SEK 50 million, reported Swedish Lady. It’s not going bad for Jonas either – according to Svensk Dam, he has a monthly salary of SEK 550,000.

What many may not know is that Stephanie and Madeleine were friends, and that she was one of those who comforted “Madde” after Jonas’ affair. After Stephanie and Jonas became a couple, the friendship with Madeleine fell apart, Svensk Dam has reported.

Princess Madeleine herself first attended Smedslättsskolan in Bromma. In middle school she went to Carlsson’s school in Östermalm in Stockholm, and she went to high school just like Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Carl Philip also did – at Enskilda high school. She graduated in 2001.

According to sources for Aftonbladet, Princess Madeleine’s older children Leonore and Nicolas go to Carlsson’s school, while the youngest Adrienne goes to a preschool in Djurgården.

It has also been rumored that the children would go to Campus Manilla on Djurgården, where their cousins, as well as Crown Princess Victoria’s child the princess Estelle and prince Oscar also goes. Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s sons Alexander and Gabriel goes to Djurgårdsskolan.

According to sources for Aftonbladet, there has been a small problem regarding the children’s choice of school. The nightmare would be if the children ended up at the same school as Madde’s ex-boyfriend Jonas Bergström’s children, as Princess Madeleine does not want to have to bump into him during drop-offs and pick-ups…

– There are many really good preschools there, but it must not happen that Madeleine and Jonas Bergström’s children end up in the same preschool. It is not a comfortable situation for Madeleine, said a source The evening paper.

Something the children can look forward to is being dropped off and picked up by grandma Silvia.

– If I have time, I pick them up from school or take them to school. I think it is important. And when they sing Christmas carols or when Lucia is there – of course we are there, the queen has said in an interview with German ZDF.
