Driving license: you can now lose even more points at once – especially in this particular case

Driving license you can now lose even more points at

Over the past year, the number of points that can be removed during a single check has increased in a specific case. How much can you lose when you commit several traffic violations?

Implemented on July 1, 1992, the points license contains 12 points, which can be withdrawn depending on the type of offense. And they can disappear pretty quickly! Thus, four points are removed from your driving license if you run a red light, three points if you exceed the authorized speed of 30 to 40 km/h and three points also if you do not wear your seat belt. If only one point will be deducted if you cross a white line, you will lose three if you call while driving and 6 if you do not respect the priority of pedestrians! Also note that you can lose 3 points if your windshield or the driver and passenger side windows of your vehicle are not sufficiently transparent. Finally, 6 points can be removed if you drive a vehicle while your driving license has been suspended.

However, all the points on your driving license cannot be withdrawn at once if you still have 12, or even 11, 10 or 9. In fact, if you accumulate several Highway Code violations, you can lose them. 8 at once. If you already have only 8 left, your driving license will no longer be valid and you will then have to retake it.

But you should know that since July 2023, the number of points lost at one time has changed for offenses linked to the consumption of alcohol or drugs. An offense linked to the consumption of alcohol or narcotics is now punishable by the loss of 8 points and no longer 6 points. The vehicle is also systematically immobilized and confiscated and any driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol now results in the mandatory suspension of the driving license by the prefect, a decision which was until now optional.
