The Renault 5 is the latest addition to the market for small, reasonably priced electric cars.

We have test driven the car in France, where the base price should be 25,000 euros. Despite the low price, the car feels luxurious, and has a number of fun details.

Here are our favorites.

Reviving an old model means using old, well-known details.

The first detail on the list is therefore in fact the new Renault 5 so clearly reminiscent of its predecessors.

Everything from the car’s profile to the shape and placement of the front and rear lights means that you immediately recognize it as a Renault 5.

This is not least evident in the fact that the car generates incredible enthusiasm from the French public when you drive it around.

Perhaps the most rewritten detail of the new Renault 5 is that it can be ordered with a baguette holder.

The stereotypically French detail is in the form of a cylindrical wicker basket mounted on the passenger side of the center console. Unfortunately, the cars we test drove were not equipped with the option.

A detail that mixes old and new is the battery indicator that Renault has mounted in one corner of the hood.

The indicator shows with five lines how charged the car’s battery is, and has the same shape and location as an air intake in the hood of the first generation of Renault 5.

The second generation of the Renault 5 came in 1989 in a special version called “Blue Jeans”, equipped with seats covered in blue denim fabric.

This is an idea that has been reused in the new Renault 5 in the “Techno” design. The upholstery is both comfortable and nice to look at, and would have been a welcome option in more cars.

With its successful retro design and vibrant color palette, the Renault 5 has one of the most playful looks on the market.

This playfulness has been chosen to be enhanced with a number of fun options with which you can make the interior your own.

You can, for example, change the end of the gear lever, or install a small wastebasket with a lid taken from an old Renault 5 in the center console.
