With a clean game, Tampere Ilves, advancing in the Veikkausliiga Championship series, won 2–0 against Vaasa. The people of Tampere pushed the decision of the championship to the final round.

Both Ilves and VPS had high stakes in the penultimate round of the Veikkausliiga.

Ilves needed points to extend the championship streak to the final round. VPS, on the other hand, wanted to avoid defeat in order to fight for fourth place, which would entitle them directly to the final stage of the Euro final tournament.

The first half progressed in two parts, with both teams having their own periods of possession. However, we went into the break with a scoreless tie.

The away team came out strong in the second half. The second half lasted only eight minutes until Ilves struck.

VPS Prosper Ahiabun the pass was badly missed near the Vaasa penalty area, so Ilves’ Lauri Ala-Myllymäki was the first to get to the ball. Ala-Myllymäki played moderately and found more with his pass Joona Vetelinwho shot the away team to a 1–0 lead.

The people of Vaasa frantically searched for an equalizer, but in the end Ilves Marius Söderbäck sealed the final score 2–0 in extra time.

Lynx by Anton Popovitch according to Tampere were not at their best, but the end result was the most important.

– It was the only goal to move the solution to the last round. It is a sign of a champion team that even with a bad game you can get a result.

– In the next round there is a final, where we will again only play for the result, Popovitch commented.

With the win, Ilves rose to the top of the league and ensured that the championship streak will extend to the final round. KuPS, who are one point behind and have played less matches, will be SJK’s guests on Saturday.

Later in the final round, Ilves will face SJK, and KuPS will host HJK.

VPS, on the other hand, is fighting for fifth place with Haka from Valkeakoski.
