Football: SM gold to Rosengård – after the 22nd straight victory

With four rounds left to play, the team still hasn’t dropped a single point. After tonight’s victory, they have a maximum of 66 points in 22 games, as well as a crushing goal difference: 89-6.

In fact, Rosengård have only been behind for five minutes this season – but they ended up winning that match 8-1 (at home against Trelleborg).

– I am incredibly happy and proud. This is a great bunch and to do it the way we did it is truly unique. Now we’re really going to enjoy even though there are rounds left in the series, says team captain Caroline Seger to SVT Sport.

Knaak hero with both goals

In Friday’s match at home against Kristianstad, German defender Rebecca Knaak became a hero. First she made it 1-0 in the 19th minute after KDFF goalkeeper Moa Olsson saved in the first position but left a rebound.

Then she also increased to 2-0 in the 77th minute.

In between, Rosengård had, among other things, had a ball in the goal that was not counted, as well as being awarded a penalty when an away player took the ball with his hand.

As a draw was not enough to secure the gold, the match became tense when Kristianstad reduced in the 86th minute. Tilda Sandén then received the ball in the penalty area, turned nicely and sent in the reduction.

Four rounds left – can take full pot

But Rosengård held back and is Swedish champion again. It is their 14th gold in total and the third in the last four seasons (last year Hammarby won).

– I am so happy and proud of this team and the way we have completed this season is absolutely incredible. I don’t think I have ever experienced such a good team feeling, says Rebecca Knaak to SVT Sport.

Rosengård’s 22 straight victories is also a record. No team has won 22 straight games from the start of the season since the premier of the women’s league in 1988.

Nor has any team won all the games in one season. Umeå has been close twice (2005 and 2006), but then with 21 victories out of 22 possible. Rosengård now has the chance, with four rounds to go.

Does it tickle to take a full pot?

– Yes, of course. The gold has been our goal all along, but now we have to finish in the best way. Then there was no one who guessed at all that we would be standing here as champions after 22 rounds and having won them all, so it’s extra nice, says Caroline Seger.
