Worlds 2024 has begun in League of Legends. Things aren’t looking good for fans of Faker and his team T1 so far. On the Swiss Stage they have to qualify for the Knockout Phase. The Korean team’s first match didn’t go well.
What is the Swiss Stage? Even before the knockout phase, in which the teams eliminate each other in playoffs to reach the final, there is the Swiss Stage. In this main round, 16 teams will compete against each other, having either qualified directly for Worlds or through the Play-In Stage. In 5 rounds, every team that wins at least 3 rounds advances.
All normal matches are played as best-of-1, if it’s about an ejection or a win in the knockout phase, then you play as best-of-3. In the first match, the 2023 T1 World Champion competed against the Chinese team Top Esports. That didn’t go well for T1.
Things didn’t go well for Faker at the MSI this year either: LoL: Things are going badly for Faker and his team T1 at the MSI – ADC even fears defeat against the team from the USA
Despite a good start, T1 couldn’t win
How did the match go? At first things weren’t going too badly for T1. Zeus as Jax was able to secure a first kill on the topplane with Gumayusi. T1 was able to achieve a good gold lead until minute 12:50, but then a teamfight broke out.
In the Top Esports jungle, Faker as Neeko and Keria as Rakan initiated a teamfight by throwing up 2 opponents with a Neeko ultimate and a Rakan W. Meiko as Rell and Tian as Skarner from Top Esports responded well and countered T1 with their CC. During the fight, JackeyLove as Jhin was able to secure a quadra kill on T1.
This allowed Top Esports to catch up with the gold lead from T1. Top Esports also won in later teamfights, especially thanks to the CC of Rell and Skarner and the extremely high damage of Jhin and Aurora, who was played by Creme.
After almost 30 minutes, Top Esports won the game.
How does the community react? The community on reddit praises Top Esports and the Chinese team’s good team play. Rell and Skarner in particular are a popular aspect.
The team’s combination and spacing to allow JackeyLove to hit his Jhin ult are positively highlighted by the community. In general, you can see how the entire Top Esports team has done a good job. However, the community is not convinced about a new change in normal LoL: LoL: Players are frustrated because Riot is deleting a popular feature: “The change is incredibly bad”
