HV71 led 3-1 and was on its way to a second straight victory.
Then they collapsed against Örebro – and lost 3-5.
– From minute 30 somewhere, I think it’s really only one team on the court, says HV71’s coach Anton Blomqvist to TV4 Play.
HV71 had had a tough start to the season. They lost their opening four games, before picking up their first win against MoDo on Tuesday. But when visiting Örebro on Thursday, they lost again – despite a 3-1 lead.
After a scoreless first period, HV got the second period off to a flying start. Tanner Kero and Radan Lenc made it 1-0 and 2-0 in the span of a minute when the second period was just over five minutes old. William Wikman reduced to 1-2 before Henrik Borgström coolly scored 3-1 between Jonas Enroth’s legs on a counterattack.
But it was followed up by three straight Örebro goals. Milton Oscarsson reduced it to 2-3 before the end of the second period – and in the middle of the third period, Patrik Karlkvist scored two goals to turn a 2-3 deficit into a 4-3 lead for Örebro.
Lifeline of match penalties
HV71 was invited into the match with just over half of the third period remaining, when Noah Steen was awarded a match penalty for boarding.
But the Småland team failed to capitalize on their power play. Instead, Filip Berglund made the final score 5-3 in an open goal with one minute and three seconds left to play.
Another loss was a fact for HV71 – which remains table jumbo. Örebro, in turn, places itself in fourth place after Thursday’s new three-pointer.
– We lose the puck far too much offensively, and in the end we have to play so much in our own zone that we do not manage to keep track of what we have done quite well until today. From minute 30 somewhere, I think there is really only one team on the court. We lose fairly, says HV71’s coach Anton Blomqvist to TV4 Play.
