This is where the bomb from World War II explodes

The bomb from World War II, which was buried at a Japanese airport, has exploded and caused a large crater, reports include The Guardian. The bomb caused no injuries – but more than 80 flights had to be cancelled.

On a film from a nearby flight school, you can first see how a plane passes by and only a minute later the American bomb explodes at Miyazaki airport in southwestern Japan.

In the video, you can see how asphalt flies into the air, like a fountain, and the explosion creates a large crater.

One of hundreds

What caused it all remains unclear but several undetonated bombs have been unearthed in the area around the airport, Defense Department officials said.

And the half-ton bombs aren’t the only ones from World War II. Hundreds of bombs are still buried around Japan and are sometimes unearthed at construction sites.
