Gemini Live, the voice mode of Google’s chatbot, is finally available in French, and for free. You will be able to chat with artificial intelligence as if it were a human being!
Gemini Live was one of the notable announcements at the Made by Google 2024 conference. Presented as a sort of AI-boosted Siri, it promises to make you talk with the personal assistant as if it were a human being. It’s very simple, you can ask him questions on various subjects, discuss out loud with him and even interrupt him in the middle of his answer to explore a particular point in more depth, all while taking advantage of his advanced voice synthesis and of its great responsiveness. In short, a real conversational assistant!
To our greatest frustration, however, the AI could only speak English. But, good news! As Google announced in an email, “Starting today and over the coming weeks, we’re expanding Gemini Live on Android phones to over 40 languages, including French”. Even better, to make it more accessible, the Web giant decided earlier in September to make it free, whereas it was previously reserved for Gemini Advanced subscribers. So you can take advantage of it now!
Gemini Live: how to install the conversational assistant?
Gemini Live is therefore presented as a free extension of the Gemini application – for the moment, it is only available on Android. You can ask him your questions in natural language, but also interrupt his answers, restart him, follow up on his remarks. Just like with a real person! AI can even handle two languages in the same conversation. Note that Gemini Live gives the choice between ten different voices, five female and five male, with different intonations and timbres.
To chat with Gemini Live now, download the Gemini app from the Play Store and launch it. Then tap the “Live” icon at the bottom right. You can then start the conversation with the AI. However, remember to set French as the main language. To do this, tap your profile picture at the top of the screen. Then go to Settings, then Languages. Choose French. You can also configure a second language if you wish.
With Gemini Live, your words are not displayed in real time on the screen, nor are those of the conversational assistant. However, you will later be able to access a written report summarizing the discussion, and even press the Google logo to obtain the sources of Gemini Live’s response. All you have to do is test it!
