Police blotter: Ohio man faces firearms charges

A 19-year-old man from Ohio is facing several firearms charges following a suspicious vehicle complaint.

Haldimand County OPP were called at about 2:30 pm on Saturday, September 28 regarding the vehicle seen on Lock Street in Dunnville.

Officers investigated and took the driver into custody.

The accused is charged with possession of weapons for dangerous purposes; unauthorized possession of a firearm; possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition; possession of a prohibited device or ammunition; careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition; two counts of knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm; import a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon, prohibited device or ammunition knowing it is unauthorized; occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm; possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – Canada; and bringing into Canada property obtained by crime.

The accused was held in custody for a court appearance in Cayuga on Wednesday.

Family dispute leads to charges

A 20-year-old resident of Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation faces charges following a family dispute.

Haldimand OPP responded to the disturbance at an Ojibway Road residence just after noon on September 22.

Through investigation the accused was charged with assault, unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, four counts of failing to comply with probation order, and disobeying an order of court.

Three charged with spousal assault

Norfolk OPP have charged three people in separate incidents of intimate partner violence.

Police were called to a residence just after 2 pm on Tuesday, October 1 where investigation determined that two individuals involved in a dispute resulted in one person being physically assaulted. No injuries were reported.

A 22-year-old Woodstock resident has been charged with assault – spousal.

At about 3:36 pm the same day officers were called to investigate an assault at another Norfolk County address.

Police say no one was injured after two people inside the home physically assaulted each other during an argument.

Two Norfolk County residents, ages 24 and 48, have been charged with two counts of assault – spousal.

Mischief in Delhi, Waterford

Norfolk County OPP are hoping the public can help identify those responsible for mischief incidents in Waterford and Delhi.

Officers responded to a call at an Old Highway 24 business just before 4:30 am on Saturday, September 28 where windows were damaged on the property overnight.

Just before 6:30 am on Tuesday, October 1 police were called to an Adams Avenue address in Delhi where a vehicle parked on the property was vandalized.

Impaired driving

An 18-year-old Hagersville man has been charged with impaired driving.

The driving behavior of the accused prompted a Haldimand County OPP officer to make a traffic stop on Haldimand Road 20 at about 4:20 am on Sunday, September 29.

The accused is charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
