So far, only one building is about to take shape in Luleå industrial park – where investments amount to SEK 70-80 billion.
It is Duroc rail that got the facade in place. The train wheel workshop that previously belonged to Svartön in Luleå. Now they are building new premises to blast, brush and check train wheels from the ore trains, the steel shuttle and night trains. They have handled up to twelve thousand pairs of wheels per year.
– We are building a new facility that will have 100 percent higher capacity than today, says Daniel Eriksson, CEO of Duroc Rail.
Started in May
LKAB has become a co-owner of Duroc Rail and in May construction began as planned. Otherwise, the area between Hertsön and Lövskär is largely on hold, but now Luleå municipality has entered a new phase.
The municipality is reorganizing to meet needs
Since the industrial park was run as a project, the responsibility now lies with the land and development manager in the municipality.
– The companies have gone from a vision of what they want to do, to very strict land instructions and construction. For example, who drives the truck and at what time, and then we need another organization to meet that, says Carina Sammeli (S), municipal councilor in Luleå.
