In his press statement at the UN Headquarters, Israel’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Ambassador Danny Danon, evaluated Iran’s missile attack on Israeli territory yesterday to journalists.
“A CALCULATED ATTACK AGAINST THE CIVIL POPULATION”
Stating that Iran’s retaliation for the killing of former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah was “not for defensive purposes,” Danon said, “This was a calculated attack against the civilian population.” he said.
“IT WILL BE PAINFUL”
Israeli Ambassador: “Israel will not remain silent in the face of such aggression. Israel will respond. Our response will be decisive and yes, it will be painful.” he said.
Danny Danon claimed that Israel’s response would be “in full compliance with international law, unlike Iran.”
Danon said that Iran “had the audacity” to send a letter to the UN Security Council after its attack against Israel, and considered this as “arrogance”.
Following the attacks in question, Iran sent a letter to the UN Security Council, stating that the missile attack on Israel was carried out “in accordance with the right of self-defense according to Article 51 of the UN Charter.”
