The Swedish Skiing Association has recently been rocked by internal disputes, which have led, among other things, to both police reports and a report to the sport’s own court, the National Sports Board.
At about the same time as the disputes became public, the association’s president Karin Mattsson announced that she would not stand for re-election, because for reasons of time and money she wants to prioritize her new assignment as board member of the international skiing association’s board.
Several new members of the board
Now the union’s election committee has presented its proposal for a new board.
Jonas Bauer is proposed as the new chairman. He has previously been, among other things, CEO of Vasaloppet and business development manager at Skistar.
– I hope to be able to contribute with stability and clarity to unite different interests in a joint effort to strengthen Swedish skiing, he says to SVT.
In addition to Bauer, a number of new names are proposed in the selection committee’s proposal. Only two of seven current board members remain in the nomination committee’s proposal for a new board.
One member, Eva-Lena Frick, has announced that she will not stand for re-election – despite having received three nominations as new chairman.
Two sitting board members, Anders Furbeck and Johan Starck, are not proposed by the election committee, despite being nominated by two districts and one association.
Proposal for dismissal
Board member Lisa Åberg, who was reported to the police by vice chairman Stefan Bessman (a report that the police chose not to proceed with) and also reported to the National Sports Committee, has two years left on her mandate as a board member. But at the union meeting, they will vote that she should be dismissed from her position.
When SVT Sport makes contact with Åberg, she says that she has not had any contact with the selection committee since before the summer, and is surprised when she hears that major changes are being proposed.
– I was asked to step down from the board work until the annual meeting because the current board threatened to resign. I would have liked to remain in office now that there are such big changes, she says, but explains that she needs to think about whether she should run for office in order to remain in office now that the situation is as it is.
SVT has contacted the chairman of the selection committee, Gustaf Martin-Löf, who does not want to make any comments.
