Electric car batteries last longer according to new tests

Electric car batteries last longer and longer, shows tests of more than four million cars carried out by the technology company Geotab. Thus, you will be able to use your electric car for a long period of time, which is essential for many electric car customers.
– It’s a big win that electric cars are actually stable in value, says electric car driver Henrik Baltscheffsky.

The technology company Geotab has rerun a test the company did five years ago on 4.5 million electric cars and their batteries.

Then – when the first tests were done, the capacity was reduced by an average of 2.3 percent per year. Now it turned out that the car’s batteries only went down by 1.8 percent every year. The company tested eleven different models and after five years the majority still had more than 90 percent of their capacity.

– Our data series show that the decline of the batteries is much less than expected, says Fabian Seithel, assistant vice president, sales Geotab Europe.

– This means that you can use your electric car for a very long period of time and that the investment has a long time to pay for itself, he continues.

Important with long life

Henrik Balczewski has leased an electric car for two years. But he has been hesitant to buy such a car, as he fears the batteries would not last.

– We’ve all had batteries in boats, mobile phones and computers and know that batteries get worse over time. If it can now be shown that car batteries have a quality that goes beyond what batteries in general are known for, it is of course a big win that electric cars actually have a stable value, says Henrik Baltscheffsky.
