Discovered in Finnish customs • Products recalled due to suffocation risk
The error was detected in the Finnish customs.
It was the beginning of several recalls for the pacifier company Esska – as the products pose a suffocation risk for children.
– Safety is the most important thing and this is of course something we have to do, says Matthew Beale, site manager.
Several pacifiers from the company Esska were recalled in July due to the risk of suffocation. In September, additional pacifiers were recalled – for the same reason, which the Swedish Consumer Agency announced on Tuesday.
– It was during a check in the Finnish customs that they discovered that some of our pacifiers did not meet the standard and the requirements that exist, says Esska site manager Matthew Beale.
Additional flaws
When the company then sent the affected products for inspection, the next setback came. There, additional products were considered deficient.
– Of course, it has a negative impact on short-term sales, but on the other hand, it is consumer safety that is most important to us, and I am also not in a position to question the consumer agency’s assessment or the requirements that exist, says Matthew Beale.
“Good plans”
The consumers who bought the pacifiers will be compensated, which means both product costs and fees for the company.
– Everyone at the company works together to ensure that consumers can feel calm and safe using our product, says Matthew Beale.
– In the long term, we have good plans to get back on track and supply the Swedish orphanage with our pacifiers.
