This year, numerous bribery and corruption investigations against leading civil servants and officers have been initiated in the Russian Ministry of Defense.

In Russia, a court has ordered a colonel of the National Guard to two months’ probation on suspicion of embezzlement, according to the state news agency Tass.

The case concerns the order of aeronautical systems for the National Guard. Colonel Oleg Gamanjunov is suspected of having caused the National Guard 80 million rubles, or just under 800,000 euros, in damage. The investigation continues and there are other suspected crimes in the investigation.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin established the National Guard in 2016 and transferred under it the forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the special forces of the police OMON and SOBR.
