Playstation Network outage: servers back online, what happened?

Playstation Network outage servers back online what happened

Several Playstation Network services went down overnight and prevented PS4 and PS5 players from playing online. The servers seem to be coming back online little by little.

A huge outage of the Playstation Network servers occurred during the night of Monday September 30 to Tuesday October 1. This outage purely and simply prevented players from accessing Sony’s games and online services, but the servers now appear to be online again in several countries including France.

The PSN outage was not only in Europe since all the countries where the service is available seemed to be impacted. Players could still enjoy their games offline, especially for the few titles that could be played solo and with no connection required. However, games that require a constant connection to work could not be launched. This could include competitive games like Valorant or Call of Duty Warzone if you wanted to compete against other players online.

When will the Playstation Network outage end?

The Playstation Network is back online. The latter was down for several hours. The servers were out of order since around 2-3 a.m. on Tuesday October 1st. The services appear to be coming back online again in some countries, but at this time neither Playstation or Sony have made any specific announcement in relation to the PSN outage. The network’s official website, however, allows you to check which services were out of order and which were still available.

Unsurprisingly, the majority of Playstation Network services are now displayed operational. Only Playstation Direct, which allows you to buy games and consoles online, seemed spared from the outage during the morning.

What caused the Playstation Network outage?

With no announcement made on the subject from Sony, it is still difficult to understand where the Playstation Network outage came from.

In the United States, however, players seemed affected by another major outage which posed a problem with the cutoff of the Internet service provider Verizon. This therefore prevented multiple American players from connecting, not only to the Playstation Network, but also to the internet overall.

In France, our internet operator services seem to work correctly. The failure must therefore have been on the side of the Playstation servers.
