Mark Rutte now leads NATO watch the first briefing

Earlier today, Rutte accepted the task from Jens Stoltenberg.

NATO’s new Secretary General Mark Rutte will hold its first press conference on Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. We follow the news from the press conference in this article.

The secretary general received the chairman’s gavel in the morning from his predecessor from Jens Stoltenberg.

Rutte outlined three main points that guide his work at the head of the military alliance of 32 countries.

In order for NATO to be able to do more, it needs more funds from its allies than at present. Rutte says that NATO will continue to support Ukraine closely and strengthen its partnerships. The new general secretary therefore continues the same broad lines as his predecessor.

Mark Rutte, 57, is the long-serving prime minister of the Netherlands. The NATO countries agreed on his selection in the spring. The selection of the Secretary General takes place in NATO without an official process, by consensus.

The Secretary General leads the meetings of the NATO Council, where ambassadors, ministers and heads of state make decisions. Military operations and other military tasks are led by the saceur, i.e. the commander of NATO’s European forces. There is an American general on duty Christopher Cavoliwho is also the commander of US forces in Europe.
