Britain is chartering flights to evacuate British citizens who want to leave Lebanon and the escalating conflict there between Hezbollah and Israel.

And Canada has reserved 800 seats on scheduled flights and is urging its citizens to leave Lebanon immediately.

“The situation in Lebanon is highly unpredictable and there is a risk that it will rapidly deteriorate,” said British Foreign Secretary David Lammy in a statement.

And Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly writes on X:

“If you are a Canadian citizen in Lebanon, you must leave now.”

The plane chartered by Britain is due to take off from Beirut International Airport on Wednesday. Depending on demand, there may be more flights.

“The safety of British citizens in Lebanon remains our top priority,” emphasizes Lammy.

Last week, Britain sent 700 troops to Cyprus to prepare for a possible evacuation of citizens from Lebanon.
