Cybercriminals hacked the home loan comparator Meilleurtaux.com and recovered a lot of sensitive information, such as customers’ income, professional and family situation.

It never ends! For several weeks now, French companies and organizations have been victims of serial hacking, which results in the theft of personal data of customers and users. And it doesn’t seem to be stopping! After Boulanger, Truffaut, Cultura, SFR and even Retirement Insurance, it is the turn of Meilleurtaux to pay the price of a hacking. In fact, the real estate loan comparator sent an email to all its customers on September 28 to warn them that a lot of personal data had been leaked – however, no announcement was made on the official website.

According to Meilleurtaux’s internal investigation, the files stolen by the hackers contain the first names, last names, addresses, telephone numbers, professional situations, income, family situations, dates of birth and nationalities of customers, but also prospects. Ouch!

Meilleurtaux Hacking: customers and prospects affected

In his email, Meilleurtaux does not indicate how the hackers entered the company’s systems. The comparator only talks about“an external attack” on a franchisee’s computer systems. It also does not specify the number of people affected.

This data leak should not be taken lightly, as it concerns a lot of information that criminals can reuse in phishing operations. Professional situation as well as income will allow hackers to personalize their phishing emails, making them more formidable.

Also, be extra vigilant in the coming weeks and as always, do not hastily respond to emails, SMS, calls, and even registered letters whose sender you do not know or which seem suspicious to you. Also be wary of emails purporting to be from Meilleurtaux, as it is possible that cybercriminals have impersonated the company. In short, take the time to verify the identity of the interlocutor before doing anything!
