The staff situation means that the situation at psychiatry is followed up daily as the situation is considered “challenging”.
Tomorrow, October 1, the inpatient psychiatry in Piteå also closes. This means that inpatients will be placed at Sunderby Hospital.
The care places are disappearing in Piteå
– So far it does not affect the situation in psychiatry, but it is clear that we already have to start looking at tomorrow and what it brings, says Pernilla Nordqvist.
When the inpatient psychiatry in Piteå now closes, there will be a total of 26 care places for the entire Sunderbyn catchment area, as well as Piteå.
– This will mean a strict prioritization of which patients will be admitted, according to a source for SVT Nyheter Norrbotten.
When it is fully loaded
The division head confirms a strained situation but points out that on Monday eight more places will open in psychiatry in Sunderbyn, which can be used when it is fully occupied in Gällivare and Piteå.
– We get to reallocate resources, move and prioritize among patients with different care needs. We do what we can to avoid overcrowding in relation to the personnel resources available, says Pernilla Nordqvist.
Need better alarm
Opening additional places of care within psychiatry is not an issue at the moment.
– We don’t have a good enough alarm chain for that. We are in the process of procuring a better alarm that will give the staff a better opportunity to work with the right things, says Pernilla Nordqvist.
