How to have a mind of steel

Having a mind of steel allows you to develop your full potential. A mental trainer gives us his secrets.

Challenge yourself, be positive, have self-confidence, accept failure, surround yourself well or take care of yourself. Having a mind of steel allows you to succeed in the goals you have set for yourself and helps you face the challenges of life. But all it takes is a lack of self-confidence to prevent potential from developing. “The loss of self-confidence begins in everyday life, when we do not feel valued at our true value. This can have an impact on several aspects, particularly in professional life”explains Geoffrey Mahieu, mental trainer. Its aim is to help people regain confidence to develop their abilities and skills.

According to this specialist “everything starts from the problem. From the moment you have defined your problem, you can try to find solutions to your inner conflict.” Several reflexes must then be put in place as part of this mental preparation:

► Become aware of the person you are and the work you do.

► Say positive sentences to yourself: for example, to have a strong mind at work, say to yourself “Great job, next time I will try to do it another way to make it even better” rather than “I didn’t do well, I should have done it differently.”

► Look for the positive in the day: connecting with something positive that we did, that happened to us or that we shared will contribute to a positive mind.

► Do not react to criticism: you must avoid escalation, negative criticism will lead to more negative things.

► Analyze your skills/work/projects/achievements: “If you are proud of what you accomplish, there is no reason to let yourself be destabilized.”

► Analyze a situation: when a person is aware of their personal, professional and/or emotional obstacles, they will be able to put in place what is necessary to prevent or confront them. “It also involves analyzing the reasons why we are afraid of doing something,” completes the expert. To do this, do not hesitate to ask questions to the people concerned in order to have a clearer opinion on a situation.

► Analyze people: receiving bad feedback from a person who you know is very critical or bad has less impact than receiving criticism from a person who is relevant to your thoughts.

► Practice self-hypnosis: this altered state of consciousness helps develop self-confidence. “In this state, we put the conscious part to sleep to speak to the unconscious part of our brain. We become our own therapist. All we have to do is repeat short, simple sentences to ourselves by going to our “place” and moving mentally if we want it”Geoffrey Mahieu tells us.

When you start to apply these tools, you can use them alone in your daily life, without even realizing it. “It’s mental gymnastics, you have to work your confidence reflexes like a muscle”explains the mental coach. “In fact, it’s very simple. It’s getting out of your comfort zone which is more difficult. This is why I also recommend going to see a therapist in addition to your mental preparation” he concludes.
