The 62-year-old singer confides that he stopped traditional treatments when his cancer relapsed.
Almost two years after the shock announcement of his lung cancer, Florent Pagny is back in action. The emblematic singer, who has become a key figure in the show The Voice on TF1, has agreed to return as a coach for the next season of telecrochet. A return to the spotlight that he approaches with serenity, after the ordeal of illness which kept him away from the stage for months.
In January 2022, Florent Pagny created a surprise by publicly announcing on social networks that he had lung cancer. News that forced him to put his career on hold while he underwent heavy treatment. After an initial remission, the interpreter of “Knowing How to Love” had to face a relapse in the spring of 2023. Despite these ordeals, the 62-year-old artist has always shown unfailing optimism.
Guest in the latest episode of Laurent Karila’s “Addiktion” podcast this week, Florent Pagny spoke candidly about his state of health. “My health is fine,” he said straight away, before going into more detail about his chaotic medical journey. “When we are affected by this disease that we call crab because it sticks, it keeps coming back, even if for a while the treatments do their job well, it has a tendency to come back,” he said. he explained. And added: “Me, she came back twice after the first, so that’s three times.”
A daily life punctuated by medical examinations every three months, a permanent sword of Damocles hanging over their heads. “We look at a three-month outlook. When she moves away, we do the checks, we don’t find anything, it’s stable, we still have an appointment in three months,” he explains. A way of living day by day, without looking too far ahead. “Every three months, you come to see if you are not going back in one direction, or if you can continue in a free life. It’s a bit special.”
But Florent Pagny’s most astonishing revelation concerns the evolution of his treatment. Noting the ineffectiveness of immunotherapy in the face of repeated recurrences, he decided to turn to other methods. “There is no longer any treatment. Even immunotherapy. We realized one day that it wasn’t working, there were relapses, we gave up,” he admits bluntly. .
It is ultimately towards traditional Chinese medicine that the singer has found comfort in recent times. “Lately, I have been supported more by Chinese medicine, and it is the one that gives me the most satisfaction for all that there may be alongside and because of the treatments,” he confides.
