In six months, Morgan Svanberg’s pool has been destroyed twice – which has cost him around half a million kroner.
Now the concern is growing that it will be a third time, because a heavy rainy weather moves in over the western parts of Sweden during Friday.
– I have a lump in my stomach, he says.
The warning from SMHI causes Morgan Svanberg to stay at home on the Onsalahalvön in Kungsbacka and monitor the house. Twice in six months, the plot has been completely destroyed in connection with floods.
– When I saw the warning, I felt “I don’t dare go away if it starts to rain like last time”. It must not happen again, he says.
“Lump in the stomach”
The pool and terrace have been restored since last August’s downpour. Then the emergency services struggled to empty nearly 80 villas out on the Onsala peninsula of water.
– I have a lump in my stomach as soon as it rains more than usual. It wouldn’t have been great fun to have to lay out 200,000 again, so I follow the weather apps slavishly, he says.
Now Morgan Svanberg is doing everything so that it will not be a “third time gilt”. A new well has been dug and a larger drainage pump installed.
– In theory, the idea is that it should help the problem, but I’d rather not try it in a sharp situation, he says.
“Respect for water”
SMHI has issued a yellow warning for rain – which extends south of Gothenburg and Jönköping down to Helsingborg – where there may be up to 60 millimeters of precipitation.
– I have never had such respect for water before, you have nothing to say when natural forces strike, says Morgan Svanberg.
Even though all weather apps indicate the same thing: Around 4-6 millimeters of rain outside Morgan Svanberg, he doesn’t dare to relax.
– They have been wrong in the past and the heavy rain is often very localized, I dare not take any chances, he says.
