Youngest MVP in NBA history retires full page ad

Derrick Rose, 35, ended his NBA career.

The youngest NBA MVP of all time Derrick Rose end his 16-year professional career. Rose, 35, was awarded the MVP award in 2010-11 when he was 22 years old.

– I know I gave it my all, so I’m sure of my decision, Rose told ESPN.

In addition to social media, Rose announced his decision in a full-page ad in the hometown newspaper of each of his NBA teams.

In advertisements published in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Commercial Appeal, Detroit Free Press, Cleveland Plain Dealer and Minneapolis Star Tribune, Rose thanked the teams’ supporters.

Rose, who grew up in Chicago, started his NBA career with his hometown Bulls, where he was awarded Rookie of the Year in the 2008-2009 season.

Rose quickly rose to become one of the NBA’s brightest stars, but his career turned downhill due to severe injuries. In the spring of 2012, he tore the ACL in his left knee during the playoffs. Rose was sidelined for the entire following season and in November 2013, he damaged the helix in his right knee.

Rose was still part of the US World Cup team in the summer of 2014. In the match against Finland, Rose stung with a fierce dunk.

Rose averaged 17.4 points and 5.2 assists per game in his 723-game NBA career.

Coached Rose in Chicago and New York Tom Thibodeau praised his former protégé in the New York Post.

– The true measure of a man is how he handles adversity. Nobody did it better, Thibodeau said.
