The super casting for James Gunn’s Superman film is getting better and better. After we already knew about David Corenswet in the title role plus Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and many others, here comes an absolute one Sci-Fi fan favorite added.
Firefly fans will be delighted to learn that Wash actor Alan Tudyk has joined the Superman project, according to Deadline. But he is completely unknown neither among DC people nor among super director Gunn.
Alan Tudyk stars in James Gunn’s Superman film and knows the filmmaker from before
Alan Tudyk and James Gunn have done so before collaborated on a rather obscure project. At least they’ve heard about it, because it’s about Tudyk’s own web series Con Man, which ran for two seasons from 2015. In it he played, very close to himself, a hapless actor who once took part in a canceled sci-fi series and has enjoyed cult status ever since. In real life, Tudyk has been the main actor in the comic adaptation Resident Alien since 2021.
The new DC movie boss appeared in the penultimate episode of Con Man Season 1 (Lost and Found), as the cast of the fictional sci-fi series Spectrum reunited and watched the lost episode. This was recreated with Dutch lookalikes – portrayed by guest stars James Gunn and Candice Patton.
If you want to take a look for yourself, you can find the web series Con Man on Amazon, Apple TV and Co. as a rental or purchase title.
Who will sci-fi star Alan Tudyk portray in Superman?
Alan Tudyk had already appeared in DC projects, but only as a voice actor. He lent his voice to Clayface in the Harley Quinn animated series and will soon be heard in James Gunn’s cartoon creation Creature Commandos as Doctor Phosphorus. Who he will portray alongside Corenswet in the live-action Superman has not yet been officially confirmed. But of course there are many assumptions circulating.
Total Film is speculating and hoping that it won’t be a new role for Tudyk and that he will instead make a cameo as Clayface. Only for the first time in flesh and blood and not just vocally. On Reddit, however, fans tend to assume that he doesn’t just play Doctor Phosphorus in the animated project of the new DC film cosmos.
A good argument for this is that his colleague Frank Grillo plays the character Rick Flag not only in Creature Commandos, but also in Superman and the Peacemaker series. In general, the original plan for the new DC universe was for the characters in all media (films, series, games) to be played or spoken by the same person.
James Gunn’s Superman is due on July 10, 2025 flown into the cinemas.
