Indeed, from this Friday, no Ukrainian will be able to automatically benefit from asylum. Something to which all refugees were entitled since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Norwegian authorities called this the ” collective protection “. But it’s now over.

Now, requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis, but only for people arriving from western Ukraine, deemed safe because it is far from the front.

To explain this turnaround, Oslo says it has already welcomed some 85,000 Ukrainians, more than its Nordic neighbors.

The Norwegian Minister of Justice explained at a press conference that the impact of this influx of refugees had had consequences on housing, health services and educational establishments in several municipalities. She also added “ that a growing share » of these refugees were “ men, many of whom are of fighting age » while Ukraine is struggling to increase the ranks of its army to repel the Russian offensive.
