Linus Dunkers, who, according to the Swedish Tax Agency, turned over SEK 25 million over three years through trading in cryptocurrencies, will avoid prison for gross tax offences. The Court of Appeal acquits him, because it is not proven that he intended to commit tax crimes. He is also acquitted of two counts of serious accounting offences.
Cryptocurrency trading was relatively new, not least in terms of taxation, when the case was discovered and Linus was later convicted in the district court in 2022, writes Svea Court of Appeal.
– It has also been of great importance that the man made several contacts with various authorities to get their view on his procedure, says Maria Hölcke, president of the court, in a press release.
Linus Dunkers still has to pay the tax supplement of SEK 8 million for his trade in cryptocurrencies. He lives in Malta, where he works remotely as an IT consultant, but according to his own information is liable for tax in Sweden.
“Hope for help” – in the clip, Linus reacts to the acquittal and how he thinks about the tax debt.
