(Finance) – It’s from 11.7 billion euros the expenditure intended for catering for tourists that they have visited Italy during the summer quarter 2024 (June August), against a total expenditure of 62 billion. A fact that highlights how the sector is a fundamental component of the Bel Paese’s tourist offerrepresenting one of the main reasons of choice for millions of visitors, both Italian and foreign.

This is what emerges from the analysis FIPE – Italian Federation of Public Businesses he created on the occasion of World Tourism Day.

Summer 2024 saw approx 215 million tourist presences in Italy, with a growth of 1.6% compared to the previous year, driven above all by the influx of foreign visitors (+4% attendance compared to 2023) which offset the slight decline in domestic flows. Restaurant entrepreneurs see international tourism as a development driver also for the next few years. Tourists, even more foreign ones, appreciate Italy not only for its artistic and landscape beauties, but also for the quality and variety of its food and wine offer. The Italian culinary experience, made of authenticity, tradition and quality, is capable of transforming every stay into an opportunity to discover and enhance the territory.

“These data confirm the importance of catering as a key element for the success of tourism in Italy”, he comments Lino Enrico Stoppani, President of FIPE. “So the time has come catering businesses are also recognized as tourism businesses, not only to encourage its modernization using the resources made available to the sector, but also to give greater impetus to the overall quality of our tourist offer, i.e. by investing in its excellence”, concludes Stoppani.
