Autumn frost on the way – yellow warning in the west

Dig out the rain jacket and umbrella. Strong winds – and a yellow warning for rain and high flows in the west – await as the weekend approaches.
Emma Rosengren, meteorologist at SMHI, also does not rule out storm villages in the south.

A low pressure has moved into the country during Thursday with areas of rain that are now moving over the southern half of the country.

But it doesn’t end there, on Friday the next low pressure will arrive with continued heavy rain in the southern part of the country.

And Västra Götaland and Halland seem to be the worst hit. SMHI has issued a yellow high flow warning for the area.

There can be high flows mainly at watercourses such as streams and rivers as a result of this. There can certainly be problems locally even outside the warning area if larger quantities arrive, says Rosengren.

The rain subsides overnight towards Saturday, but the warning remains throughout the day.

Strong gusts of wind

Even in Svealand and Götaland, it looks like it will rain most of Friday – even a bit into Saturday.

You can count on fairly abundant amounts there as well, but not in such a way that we see that it would have any serious consequences.

During Saturday, you can also expect strong to very strong wind gusts along the southernmost coast, according to Rosengren.

It is not completely out of the question that the closest thing to the coast could be a storm village as well.

Generally in the south, healthy to strong gusts of wind are promised for Friday. Further north it is not as windy.

Snowdrifts drift in

During Saturday, showers may pass in the south, but most of the rain will move away and it also looks like the wind will die down.

In the north there is a little more sun, but it can drive some snow flurries into the mountains.

It is also a colder air mass that follows behind these passing low pressures. It will probably be noticeably cooler during the day as well.

Mostly sunny, locally some showers and snow showers in the mountains are expected on Sunday, according to Rosengren.
