At the World Road Cycling Championships in Zurich, Switzerland, a shocking accident was experienced on Thursday, when an 18-year-old Swiss Muriel Furrer crashed in the junior women’s road race in rainy conditions. Furrer suffered a serious head injury and is in a very critical condition, the International Cycling Union UCI said on its pages.
After the accident, Furrer was rushed to the hospital by helicopter, and the UCI, the Swiss Cycling Federation and the WC organizers announced that they were “very concerned” about Furrer’s situation. According to the release, on Thursday evening there was still no exact information about how the accident happened.
