Everyone is so incredibly hopeful about Alvar Myhlback.
Because it is a very special debutant in the Swedish national skiing team.
Now he is targeting national team colleague William Poromaa as well.
He may only be 18 years old though Alvar Myhlback has already managed so much in his short career. The Swede is described as one of the world’s biggest talents in cross-country skiing and will now make his first senior season.
Myhlback’s success
Last season, the teenager showed the entire skiing world what incredible capacity he already possesses, despite his young age. Myhlback came in a historic third place in the Vasaloppet, took double JVM gold and made his debut at the World Cup.

Now he has decided to invest wholeheartedly in traditional cross-country skiing and sees the 2025 World Ski Championships in Trondheim as the big goal this winter.
– Now I am focused on the WC this winter. You can say that I train 50/50 long-distance running and traditional skiing, says Alvar to langd.se about his tailor-made plan.
– We will see what kind of season they will be. I don’t have a fixed place in the World Cup team and it could be a long shot. Absolutely that the JVM is one of the bigger competitions, but we’ll see how it develops.
Mocking Poromaa
The plan is for Alvar Myhlback to belong to the Swedish junior national team but to both train with the blue-yellow A national team and continue with his long-distance team Lager 157.
– I try to keep the training consistent. But since May 1, I’ve been training about 100 hours a month on average. It will be about another month with this much volume before the intensity is increased towards the season, he says in the interview and shares a typical day in his teenage life.
– It doesn’t really happen that much. I exercise, eat and watch TV, a lot. Sometimes I can come up with something in between. Skiing is pretty much my life.

That the Swedish super talent is bursting with self-confidence is no understatement either. When Myhlback is told that the national team colleague William Poromaa thinks that long-distance running “is like slow-motion TV”, he reacts immediately and responds with a clear sneer to the new colleague.
– It’s probably because he stakes so slowly that it becomes slow-motion TV when he drives, says Alvar with a real grin.
