Premium smartphones are no longer the only ones to benefit from long-term updates. Samsung proves it with the Galaxy A16, its new entry-level model.
Just a few months after the release of the Galaxy A15, one of Samsung’s entry-level models, the Korean company is already moving up a gear with the Galaxy A16. Available in 4G and 5G versions, Samsung’s small mobile follows in the footsteps of its predecessors with its easily identifiable design and flawless build quality.
But Samsung is asserting a little more confidence in the durability of this model. The A16 now benefits from Android update tracking and security patches extended to 6 years (compared to 4 years and 5 years for the previous model). In this, the policy adopted for the Galaxy A16 is a little closer to what is practiced for the S (premium) and Z (folding) ranges which display update tracking set at 7 years. In addition, these new Galaxy claim a repairability index of 8.4/10. For entry-level devices, this is rather comfortable.
Samsung Galaxy A16: technical improvements
An extended update tracker also means a more robust technical sheet to support the next versions of Android (up to the twentieth version in this case since the device comes with Android 14). However, the frame seems a little light since the Galaxy A16 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ SoC, like its predecessor. A relatively modest chip compared to the market leaders, but which is more than enough to comfortably run all the classic applications. Above all, it benefits from a 6.7-inch screen (0.2 inches more than on the A15) of the Amoled type, which gives it a good display quality, like the more expensive models.
In terms of RAM and storage, we also find the same configuration of 4-128 GB or 4-256 GB. And if the photo shutter does not move an inch compared to the A15, just like the battery (5000 mAh) Samsung indicates a greater autonomy estimated at 2.5 days against 2 days on the A15.
The good news is the prices. They do not vary compared to the A15. The Galaxy A16 4G starts at 219 euros while the 5G version starts at 249 euros. Let’s bet that with the many end-of-year promotions and operator discounts, it will quickly drop below the 200 euro mark. Far from the stars of the market and the spotlight of technophiles, the Galaxy A16 could well be the ideal smartphone for “normal” people, with all the classic functions, a beautiful screen, good battery life, all at a reasonable price. Without a doubt a future star of the market, despite what luxury product lovers may say.
