The Israeli army has announced on Thursday afternoon that it will carry out “precision strikes” on the Lebanese capital Beirut.

According to Aremija, the target of the attacks was a high-ranking leader of Hezbollah, whose fate Israel has not specified so far.

– IDF [Israelin armeija]is currently carrying out precision strikes on Beirut. We will provide more information later, the army says in a statement.

Witnesses report hearing explosions and clouds of smoke in the suburbs of Beirut.

Israel carries out its attack just hours after a Western coalition led by the United States, Britain, and the European Union called for a temporary ceasefire between Lebanon’s Hezbollah organization and Israel.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz rejected the ceasefire proposal at noon on Thursday.
