A man facing charges linked to what Sarnia police called a commercial break-in early Tuesday morning has been held in custody and will return to court later this week.

A security alarm was activated at a business on Confederation Street west of Indian Road South Tuesday shortly after 5 am, police said.
“Upon arrival, police observed a hole cut into a fenced compound and soon after located a male hiding in a dumpster. Police also located a backpack beside the dumpster that contained wire cutters and a quantity of stolen wire with an estimated value of $500,” police said in a statement.
Corey Michael Popp, 38, from Sarnia, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering, theft worth less than $5,000, mischief worth less than $5,000, and failing to comply with probation, police said. He was held for a bail hearing, they added.
Popp, who already is facing three other sets of charges in Sarnia and is on bail, appeared in court Tuesday afternoon. He was wearing a black hoodie with stripes down the sleeves as he stood in the Sarnia courtroom’s prisoner’s box.
A justice of the peace kept Popp in custody and he will appear in court Friday morning by video link from the Sarnia Jail.
