09:18 – The repeal of the pension reform: a tipping point?
If the RN, which sees very right-wing profiles accessing key positions such as the Ministry of the Interior and can hope to be heard by the Prime Minister, still has few arguments against the government, if not the presence, too numerous according to it, of Macronists in the ministries. But a disagreement could arise during the examination of the next texts of law, starting with that concerning the 2025 budget, and push the RN to support a motion of censure. On a text that would oppose the extreme right as much as the left to the government, like the repeal of the pension reform defended by both camps, a motion of censure could prevail.
08:56 – Eric Ciotti, an ally of the RN in the event of a vote
The RN can count on a new ally with Eric Ciotti’s group, which has announced its departure from the Les Républicains party. The Alpes-Maritimes MP announced on RTL that he “will vote for a motion of censure if there are taxes that hit both the French and businesses”. However, the Prime Minister has several times opened the way to an increase in taxes for certain categories of people and businesses, particularly the wealthiest, before the vote on the 2025 budget. A vote for a motion of censure by these two groups is therefore not impossible.
08:34 – The 3 conditions set by the National Rally
If the left is determined to overthrow the government, the RN has decided not to censure Michel Barnier’s executive before the latter has clarified his political line. The party with the flame does not rule out voting, or even filing, a motion of censure later if the government disappoints it. Marine Le Pen’s camp is therefore in the position of arbiter and it is making it known: the president of the RN group in the Assembly has invited the Prime Minister to remind his ministers of the “government philosophy” – or rather the sword of Damocles hanging over them. Control of immigration, no tax increases and a focus on security are the three red lines set by Marine Le Pen.
08:12 – Faced with a motion of censure, Barnier suspended from the RN vote
The Barnier government already knows that it will face a motion of censure, and probably several. The objective is therefore to hold out against the opposition of the left… by ensuring the support of the far right. And this for as long as possible. The future of the Prime Minister and his executive is therefore hanging by a fragile thread, hence the haste and virulence with which Michel Barnier “reframed” his Minister of the Economy, Antoine Armand, after the latter said he wanted to exclude the National Rally (RN) from the “republican arc” and from the discussions at Bercy to establish the 2025 budget.
09/25/24 – 11:45 p.m. – These two delegate ministers who will soon join the government
END OF LIVE – The announcement was expected this afternoon. This Wednesday evening, the names of the two new ministers delegated, one for People with Disabilities and the other for the Armed Forces and Veterans, had still not been revealed. The cause? The review of the High Authority for Transparency in Public Life (HATVP) which was still in progress, according to the Élysée Palace, which is echoed franceinfo. Can we hope for an announcement this Thursday? No deadline has been set for the time being.
09/25/24 – 10:18 p.m. – The draft budget for 2025 presented “in two weeks”
Auditioned this Wednesday by the Finance Committee of the National Assembly, the new Minister of the Budget, Laurent Saint-Martin, announced that the 2025 budget project will be presented “in two weeks” before the National Assembly and the Senate. “I will be scrupulous about respecting [du délai constitutionnel] 70 days, but also on the fact that Parliament has time to do its work,” he assured. Laurent Saint-Martin also “prioritatively” recommended a reduction in spending, the objective being above all to clean up public finances.
“The week of October 9 will be the week of the submission of the draft finance bill for 2025,” confirms @laurentsmartin.
