Therese Johaug bets on running the WC in Trondheim in February.
Now that the competition program has been presented, it is one thing she has reacted strongly to.
– I don’t know who decided that, she says to Norwegian NRK.
It had been two and a half years since the Norwegian ski queen Therese Johaug36, decided to end his career. But she couldn’t stay away from the sport for too long. Ahead of the WC in Trondheim 2025, she is again the big draw, because she is betting on winning gold on home soil.
Therese Johaug’s surprise
The WC will last between February 26 and March 9. It will be a two-week ski party with several exciting distances. But when Johaug, who is best known for her endurance over longer distances, saw the schedule, she was really surprised… in a negative way.
Johaug had hoped, or rather expected, that the women would be allowed to settle on March 8, i.e. on International Women’s Day. Instead, five miles, Nordic combination and ski jumping are held – but only for the men.

– What happened there?! What happened there? I actually thought the five miler would be on Women’s Day, how much better would that have been? Huh?!, she says to NRK.
– I don’t know who has decided that, she says and at the same time urges the organizers to think again.
The answer from the organizers
The women’s five-mile race starts on March 9, the last day of the championship. The ladies get a rest day before the final race. The WC manager Åge Skinstad explains the decision to NRK.
– Both men and women compete individually on Tuesday, before there is a team sprint on Wednesday. Then it becomes a gender that gets three competitions in a row. We have chosen that it is the men. There are more specialists among the men. Then we think there are fewer men who want to run three races in a row than there are women, he says.
